EAT

Roasted Butternut with buckwheat pomegranate and feta is one of the most popular dishes on the menu at the Ivy Restuarants and now at our house , thanks to me discovering the recipe on line. It is easy to make, looks really impressive if you have guests, and tastes just good as the one served at The Ivy .

Bonus point - the recipe can easily be adapted for Vegans.

DRINK

Sparkling Water & Lime Cordial - My go-to drink, Winter, Spring, Summer, or Fall.

This drink is always refreshing and doesn't make me feel left out when not drinking alcohol in a social situation. Unlike most carbonated drinks this one isn’t too sweet. Even the flavored waters, marketed to be natural, are often taste overly sugary.

Roses lime cordial is my preference; it has a nice balanced flavour of lime, is a little bit sour but not too sweet - any sparkling water will mix with it nicely . Possibly I will add a frozen slice of lime for an ice cube if I am feeling fancy!

Roses was the world's first commercial fruit cordial, invented by Lauchlin Rose, in Leith, a Scottish port in Edinburgh in 1867 and still popular today in pubs and homes for both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

MERRY

The Pet Shop Boys are celebrating 40 years with a sold-out Greatest Hits set of shows at the Royal Opera House in London this month. I was guided by Google to a brilliant documentary from the BBC Imagine Series. The Pet Shop Boys have sold over 50 million records, yet have managed to retain their privacy but happily Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe have allowed backstage access on a world tour for the first time to create this film for all of us who can’t get to a show it’s a lovely alternative.

Nostalgic, optimistic, and uplifting, I encourage you to watch. For fans and even casual observers, it is a great watch, particularly for the social history.

I hope they record the tour for all of us who can't get to see them live.

Pet Shop Boys - "Smash" compilation album released in 2023, features their 51 singles from 1985-2020.

AND . . .

Rosebud Podcast with Gyles Brandreth

For the last 2 weeks I have spent a lot of time listening to “Rosebud” and seem to be recommending it to almost everyone I meet . Gyles talks to famous and fascinating people about their first memories and first experiences. The guest list is eclectic and impressive, from Rupert Everett to our new PM Sir Keir Starmer, there is someone for just about everyone - I think you might get hooked too.

My absolute favorite episode is Rev Richard Coles. From Pop to Clergy - he's a true original.

Expect lots of laughter, nostalgia, revelations, and more than a few surprises.

BRIGHT !

Ice & Cream Clothes

Instead of eating ice cream, I have taken to wearing white and cream - being cholesterol and calorie it’s perfect for my current situation.

Wearing white and cream looks and feels summery, even if the actual garments aren’t summer ones ! Due to the unseasonable weather some days I’ve been even been wearing a cream woollen jumper.

This colour palette is very flattering to all complexions, including my "milk bottle" skin tone. Wearing lighter colours seems to give (my) older, dull, skin a lift with its ability to reflect what little light there is on even the dullest of days.

Hello Magazine had an interesting article recently on wearing white /neutral colours with some interesting insights from colour experts.

Well I guess if it's works for Geri Halliwell and the Royal Family then there has to be something in it .

Hope you have a wonderful week ahead and enjoy this week's list .

Until next Sunday

Cheerio xx
