"I believe in Pink" - Audrey Hepburn
Do you ?
Pink is a powerful colour, it can provoke extreme reactions from love and loathing in equal measure. Pink has been shown to calm prisoners in detention centres, subdue athletes performances, used to signify femininity as well as masculinity, it was the colour of choice for baby’s before blue in Western Culture .
My relationship with this colour has been a fluctuating one. As a child, I adored all things pink, as a teen I abandoned pink , attempting to throw off all things childish I entered into the adult world and lead a fairly mono chromatic life from then until now.
In my 50s, I am looking at pink with fresh eyes as I see all around me pleasing connections to the colour and the joy it brings. Whether it's wearing pink, eating and drinking pink, or surrounding ourselves with the colour pink, it never seems to fail in making a positive impact.
Wearing Pink
Last week Ariana Grande haranessed the power of pink as she turned up in a stunning pink dress to the Olympic opening ceremony in Paris. The impact was reminiscent of Gwyneth Paltrow's Oscar "pink moment " when she made her tearful speech back in 1999.
Pink tones vary as widely as the moods they create, from the brightest Schiaparelli Shocking Pink to the palest sugar almond pink and all the shades in between, there is a shade to suit just about everyone.
Many people move into wearing pink from reds starting with the intense pinks such as fuschia and magenta. Pink has been used in films , fashion and media with great effect . The use pink of breast cancer awareness has been a particularly effective use of the colour and copied by other charities.
This wonderful blogpost delves into the history pink dresses and dressers from The Marquise de Pompadour- official favourite of the French Kind Louis XV to Nicki Minaj and Madonna .

Drinking Pink
How about trying a Pink Lady Cocktail ?
Said to have been invented by Jacques Straub and first appearing in his 1913 publication of Manual of Mixed Drinks, the Pink Lady has since suffered from a series of misrepresentations. It may have been named after the 1911 Broadway musical by Ivan Caryll of the same name, or named in honour of its star Hazel Dawn who was known as "The Pink Lady". During the Prohibition era (1920–1933), the cocktail was a widely known recipe that has adapted to cater to changing tastes over the years.

Eating Pink
Have you considered swapping your apple for a pink one? The Pink Lady Apple originated in 1973 through a crossbreeding of Golden Delicious and Lady Williams apples by John Cripps. Branded as Pink Lady, these apples are now distributed worldwide with their distinctive pink heart label. The key to their pink blush lies in allowing them a generous growing period on the tree, up to 200 hours, to achieve the rosy pink colour.

Listening in Pink
How about a pink retreat ?
The Pink House Podcast with Sam Smith https://lemonadamedia.com/show/the-pink-house-with-sam-smith/
Hosted by five-time Grammy winner Sam Smith, The Pink House is a new podcast about the people and places that make us who we are now. One of those places was Sam’s childhood home in the English village of Great Chishill, literally called The Pink House. It was a space of total warmth and love where Sam felt safe enough to find their voice. On the podcast, Sam is sitting down with good friends and queer icons to explore their own “Pink Houses,” how they navigated early struggles and ultimately found their place in the world.
I would love to have a virtual pink house to retreat to and chat away my days with friends and inspirations - I just wish I thought of this as a podcast - the icing on the cake is the title - just perfect .

Living in Pink
My Life in an Insta-Famous Pink House
Life in a pink house could be fun, but it seems that it can attract a lot more visitors than one would ideally like . This can have some interesting consequences, as Peter Lee, a designer who has been living in his pink house in Notting Hill since the 1970s, has found out. Since Instagram became popular, people flock to take photos of themselves outside his pink house.
"Every day people photograph my house, and photograph themselves in all kinds of poses outside. I have CCTV cameras set up for security reasons, which are clearly visible, and they have picked up all sorts of funny images of people posing on my steps".
